I grew up during the “Cold War” and all the time you could read how the Russians just flew where and when ever they wanted over any nations air space. Now I can see signs of this starting to take place again. As the latest debate from Putin, where Putin clearly is testing Obama! Just as Hillary Clinton last week warned Russia. Clinton’s warning came a day after she accused Russia of providing a shipment of attack helicopters to Syria a claim that Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov denied. Lavrov, in return, accused Washington of giving arms to the Syrian rebels.
Once again Russian Air Force showing off and carried out the second intrusion of US air space in two weeks.( not to mention the Norwegian and Swedish and Finnish intrusions) Russian nuclear-capable bombers was intercepted near US`s West Coast. The first intrusion was made by two Tu-95 (Tupolev) Bear H bombers, and took place near Alaska as part of arctic war games that a Russian military spokesman said included simulated attacks on “enemy” air defenses and strategic facilities. Russia continues to present themselves just as they did during the “Cold War” and the Soviet era. Was this the answer on Hillary Clinton’s attack on Russia?
These two Russian strategic nuclear bombers entered the U.S. air defense zone near the Pacific coast on Wednesday and were met by U.S. interceptor jets, defense officials told the Free Beacon. It was the second time Moscow dispatched nuclear-capable bombers into the 200-mile zone surrounding U.S. territory in the past two weeks. The earlier intrusion by the two Tu-95 Bear H bombers took place near Alaska was explained by the Russians as part of arctic war games that included simulated attacks on “enemy” air defenses and strategic facilities. A defense official said the Pacific coast intrusion came close to the U.S. coast but did not enter the 12-mile area that the U.S. military considers sovereign airspace.
The bomber flights near the Pacific and earlier flights near Alaska appear to be signs Moscow is practicing the targeting of its long-range air-launched cruise missiles on two strategic missile defense sites, one at Fort Greely, Alaska and a second site at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. In May, Russian Gen. Nikolai Makarov, the chief of the Russian General Staff, said during a Moscow conference that because missile defense systems are destabilizing,
“A decision on preemptive use of the attack weapons available will be made when the situation worsens.” The comments highlighted Russian opposition to planned deployments of U.S. missile defense interceptors and sensors in Europe.
The U.S. defense official called the latest Bear H incident near the U.S. West Coast “Putin’s Fourth of July Bear greeting to Obama.” Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, a former Alaska commander for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said the latest Bear H intrusion appears to be Russian military testing.

“It’s becoming very obvious that Putin is testing Obama and his national security team,” McInerney told the Free Beacon. “These long-range aviation excursions are duplicating exercises I experienced during the height of the Cold War when I commanded the Alaska NORAD region. McInerney said the Bear H flights are an effort by the Russians to challenge U.S. resolve, something he noted is “somewhat surprising as Obama is about to make a unilateral reduction of our nuclear forces as well as major reductions in our air defense forces.”
“Actions by Russia in Syria and Iran demonstrate that Cold War strategy may be resurrected,” he said. “These are not good indications of future U.S. Russian relations.”
Pentagon spokesman Capt. John Kirby said the incident occurred July 4. He said the “out-of-area patrol by two Russian long-range bombers … entered the outer [Air Defense Identification Zone]” and the bombers “were visually identified by NORAD fighters.” Kirby said the bombers did not enter “sovereign airspace.” He declined to identify the specific distance the aircraft flew from the United States due to operational security concerns. He also declined to identify the types of aircraft used to intercept the bombers. In last month’s intercept of two Russian Tu-95 bombers, U.S. F-15s and Canadian CF-18s were used. The most likely aircraft used in Wednesday’s intercept were U.S. F-15 jets based at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Kirby and U.S. Northern Command spokesmen, apparently in line with the Obama administration’s conciliatory reset policy toward Russia, sought to play down both bomber intrusions. The Pentagon spokesman said the latest Pacific intrusion was “assessed as another training activity.”
First the Russian Air Force may receive its first PAK DA next generation long-range bomber about 2015, instead of 2020-2025 as initially planned, Russia’s acting deputy Air Force commander, Major General Alexander Chernyayev, said.
I believe we can clearly expect more of this behaviour now when the new PAK-DA is almost ready for flights.
Rather than using traditional military terminology common during the Cold War to describe the meeting of the violating bombers as an “intercept,” Kirby said that the bombers were “visually identified” by jets described only as joint U.S.-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) jets.
“NORAD is posture to ensure air warning and control for the continental United States, Canada, and Alaska,” Kirby said. “NORAD maintains an extensive radar system around North America and has aircraft located throughout the United States and Canada that can respond quickly to any unidentified flights approaching the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).” Kirby said the ADIZ extends about 200 miles from the coast and is “mainly within international airspace.”
“The outer limits of the ADIZ goes well beyond U.S. sovereign air space which only extends 12 nautical miles from land,” he said. “As part of its mission, NORAD tracks and identifies all aircraft flying in the ADIZ in advance of any aircraft entering sovereign airspace.”
The Free Beacon reported June 28 that two Bear H’s intruded into the Alaska ADIZ during war games that ended June 27. A Northern Command spokesman later disputed the Free Beacon’s assertion that the bombers violated U.S. airspace and said the air defense zone is not the same as sovereign airspace since it includes international airspace. However, the ADIZ is defined by the military as a nation’s declared area within which “the ready identification, the location, and the control of aircraft are required in the interest of national security.” Canadian Navy Lt. Al Blondin also said in an email that the Russian bombers during the air defense intrusion last month did not violate U.S. airspace.
“NORAD will track and identify all aircraft flying in the ADIZ prior to those aircraft entering sovereign airspace,” Blondin said.
“It is important to note the Russian flights followed international flight rules and conducted their flight in a professional manner,” Blondin said. “As is their right, the Russian Air Force continues to fly in international airspace.”
Earlier, in response to questions about the Alaska Bear H intrusion, Marine Corps Col. Frank H. Simonds, Jr., deputy chief of staff for NORAD-U.S. Northcom, also defended the Russian bomber intrusion as unthreatening.
“NORAD does not consider these flights a severe threat,” Simonds said, noting “Russia and NORAD routinely exercise their capability to operate in the North.”
Simonds identified the Alaska defense zone intruders as Tu-95MS bombers that were met by U.S. F-15s and Canadian CF-18s.
“Interaction between NORAD fighters with these types of aircraft are carried out routinely,” Simonds said. “As part of its responsibilities to identify all aircraft in its area of operation, which includes the ADIZ, NORAD has visually identified more than 50 Russian long-range bomber aircraft over the last 5 years and NORAD fighters have been interacting with Russian aviation for over 50 years.”
Simonds said NORAD and Russian aircraft since 2010 take part in an exercise called Vigilant Eagle aimed at building cooperation on identifying and intercepting hijacked aircraft that cross international boundaries. Last week, Rep. Michael R. Turner (R., Ohio), chairman of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee, said the Bear H intrusions near Alaska showed Russia’s response to the administration’s reset policy. He said air intrusions, along with threats to attack U.S. missile defense sites preemptively, were signs of Putin’s aggression in the face of President Obama’s promised flexibility in talks with Moscow. The Alaska bomber flights coincided with a summit between Obama and Putin in Mexico June 18.
According to U.S. officials, some 30 bombers and support aircraft took part in the war games, including the Bear Hs and Tu-160 Blackjack bombers. Russian Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Vladimir Deryabin, told reporters in Moscow last month that the arctic strategic war games “practice destruction of enemy air defenses and strategic facilities.”

The best films will innovate on story, others on style. But it’s rare to see both come together in one film. It doesn’t happen often—David O Reilly’s Please Say Something, Eran Hilleli’s Between Bears, Chris Landreth’s Ryan. Now, we present Heliofant’s dreary surrealism in short. I Pet Goat II is a difficult film to dissect, but I’ll give it a try. First, the story is less of a narrative and more like an interpretive dance of modern travesties America’s war on terror, religious fundamentalism, militarism in Africa, totalitarianism in China, and exploitation all over the world (some of which may seem a little heavy-handed to us Americans). It’s packed with loaded symbols used to remix pop culture into a new mythology complete with surreal landscapes and zany characters.
Second, it’s very theatrical. There’s a lot of dancing with scenes rendered like sets and characters painted like vinyl figures. Even the editing has a bit of a Red Curtain aesthetic. The movement of the film is one of its greatest strengths. Motion capture was used for about half the animation adding a much-needed ‘real’ touch to the surrealism. If you check with people who still know what it means to live like true humans, you find the spark of goodness has not been snuffed out. An estimate $1200 million dollars in gold ore is in their backyard. The 450 residents in the valley were offered about 3.5% of that, or nearly $37 million, over a period of 10 years, if they would allow the mining to take place. That works out to about $8155 dollars per resident per year for ten years.
They refused to allow their valley to be ruined by a margin of 2 to 1. I guess the price wasn’t right. Know what? There is no price that is acceptable to let others destroy your ancestral homeland. No price. None. Nada.

Recently the nobel Tellus Institute , a non-profit sustainability research organization, created “sophisticated human population models” with their PoleStar project (PSP). Using data provided to them by the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank (WB), they analyzed parameters such as energy consumption, land use and pollution. The PSP predicts simulated outcomes that are being used to shape international policy. Richard Rosen, executive vice president of Tellus claims that if we are to make this world a pleasant place to live, we should “get going immediately. There’s no leisurely way.”
Geophysicists at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research states that only 282 billion people could be “packed onto the planet” with all other land reserved for food cultivation only. The PSP infers 4 possible scenarios that will come to pass because of the growing human population. And If we continue with the stupid “business as usual”, by the year 2100, we will see the poorer regions suffer from the growth of industry. Environmental problems abound and become more acute.
We can expect family planning policies that restrict the right to have children. The expectation of population growth would be pushing the boundaries of sustainability; being 9.3 billion. With more humans on the planet will come income disparity. The average take home pay could be as low as 5cents per dollar earned. Water securitization would be implemented to ensure water stress is reduced to an acceptable minimum. However by 2100, water shortages could reach as high as 50%. Under strict food securitization policies, less than 6% of the world’s population could be affected by starvation.
In another scenario, by 2100, governments have adhered to the UN’s climate change targets and sustainability goals; however economic growth is hindered and stronger policies must be put in place to curb the affects. With family planning services enforced onto the population, only 8.4 billion people would be straining natural resources. The average income would only be worth 11 cents on the dollar. Expected water shortages would force 23% of the world’s water resources to be controlled by governmental policies.
International mandates controlling food would result in only 3% of the world’s population to suffer from hunger.
Building A Fortress World
By 2100 this global society would be controlled by an authoritarian government in order to control distribution of resources. Economic, social and environmental downgrades would cause the wealthy to retreat to protected areas; leaving the masses to fend for themselves in the wastelands. Implementing family planning services would be near impossible, leaving the global population to rise to 10.2 billion. The average income would be reduced to 2 cents on the dollar. Water securitization would control 46% of the world’s water supplies. Global hunger could soar to nearly 15% of the entire population. Is this the way really? By 2100, if the world’s societies were to radically alter their environmental preservation policies and prioritize social memes to reflect those of the UN, the planet could live in a world of social equality and cooperation. Family planning would have successfully controlled population growth to a stable 7.3 billion worldwide. Take home income could be raised to 36 cents on the dollar. With less people, water securitization could be kept to a minimum of 21%. The incidents of global hunger would be negligible. Regardless of global population decline, the UN’s Populations Fund (UNFPA) is calling for more family planning services in order to further decrease fertility rates worldwide.
The UNFPA released a report in 2011 that erroneously claimed that the world’s population will rise to 9.15 billion by 2050. In response, the UNFPA has focused efforts on STD immunizations, abortion and contraception more readily available under the non-discriminant term, family planning”. Their concept for the future appears to be miserable without the submission of all humans on planet Earth to their globalist Elite schemes. They are quite good at using fear to justify their policies to elected officials, governments and average citizens. Their continued success will surely lead to the worst of possible futures. We’ve seen it time and again over the last decade. An emergency strikes and panic grips the city or region for days or weeks on end. We saw a complete breakdown of emergency response and law & order during Hurricane Katrina. The 2011 Snowpocalypseon the east coast led to runs on grocery stores and empty shelves within a matter of hours. Widespread blackouts during Hurricane Ike left large sections of the Houston power grid down for up to four weeks. In all these cases gas was almost impossible to find, what was in your pantry was what you had until food distribution resumed, local water was not safe for consumption, and government response was limited to reinstating essential services first and foremost.
The bottom line, as Jesselyn Radack of the Government Accountability Project notes, is that after billions have been spent by Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and local law enforcement, we are no more prepared today than we were the day before September 11, 2011.
After a short but unusually severe thunderstorm that roared through the D.C. area on Friday night, the entire Washington Metropolitan Area was thrown into chaos.

Despite the fact that billions if not trillions have been spent since 9/11 on counter-terrorism and so-called “homeland security” measures, one of the major terrorist targets, the nation’s capital, cannot cope with a severe thunderstorm.

I received a message from PEPCO that most D.C.-area residents may not have power until next Friday at 11:00 pm – a full week after the storm hit. With temperatures this week set for the mid to upper-90s, that is a long time for residents to be with air conditioning, or fans, or refrigerators.
Two years ago, the Washington Post’s comprehensive examination of the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on “homeland security,” “Top Secret America” reflected that the D.C. metropolitan area was burgeoning with infrastructure, though apparently none of it focused on keeping the D.C.-area up and running after a severe thunderstorm.

I am not the only D.C. taxpayer wondering, where are billions in “critical infrastructure” protection and “homeland security?”They are not going toward obvious solutions like putting power lines underground.
The D.C. area’s responsiveness to unexpected events has not improved, but taxpayers’ pockets have been drained to create an entire secret city of “national security” in northern Virginia. Making sure citizens have food and power in an emergency should be a top priority, not a distant second to security theater like taking our shoes off before getting on an airplane.

Once again we are provided with ample evidence that not only is the government ill-prepared to handle a large scale city-wide emergency, but the residents of this nation are completely oblivious to the fact that if the shit hits the fan, no one will be there to provide assistance.
When Houston was hit almost head on by Hurricane Ike in 2008 the residents of the entire metropolitan area were shocked. Never mind the mass chaos as millions tried to flee the region, with drives to neighboring cities taking upwards of ten times longer than they normally would. Power for 90% of the city went out, and for some areas, including where we lived, power was not restored for almost a month. Suffice it to say our community was anxiety ridden, frustrated and tempers were flaring. When gas became wholly unavailable and the generators stopped running and we were overtaken with near 100 degree heat during the day, the situation for many became untenable.
Even after these recommendations from the very people who are tasked with responding to emergency and disaster situations, not a single resident in our community that we were aware of had emergency supplies on hand when Ike hit – even though many had gone through countless hurricanes before and knew what to expect.
After Katrina, Ike, the various earthquakes, wildfires, snow storms, “Derechos,” power outages, and tens of billions in taxpayer funds supposedly appropriated into infrastructure, security and emergency response, it’s simply incredible that we are so unprepared as a society.
Imagine, for a moment, what happens in a scenario that affects not a single city, but an entire multi-state region, or, perhaps the entire nation. And imagine that the event(s) is so widespread that government is totally overwhelmed – food transportation stops, refineries can’t get gas to local areas, water and power utility workers stay home to care for their families, law enforcement is faced with widespread looting, the internet becomes inaccessible as do all avenues of communication due to blackouts, and grocery store shelves remain out of stock for weeks or months.
Such a scenario may be unlikely, but certainly possible – and the resulting effects on the population and our way of life would be nothing short of complete and utter pandemonium, especially for those who have failed to prepare.

Security Report: Massive Cyber Attack In Progress In the USA, Europe, Latin America: $2.5 Billion Siphoned From -
Financial Institutions So Far.
Leading cyber security firm McAfee has issued a startling breaking news report that indicates the U.S., European and Latin American financial systems are under a massive financial attacks that have digitally siphoned some $2.5 billion from thousands of accounts from various financial institutions.
According to McAfee, the attacks are ongoing and international law enforcement agencies are currently working to shut them down:
McAfee and Guardian Analytics have uncovered a highly sophisticated, global financial services fraud campaign that has reached the American banking system. As this research study goes to press, we are working actively with international law enforcement organizations to shut down these attacks.
Unlike standard SpyEye and Zeus attacks that typically feature live (manual) interventions, we have discovered at least a dozen groups now using server-side components and heavy automation. The fraudsters’ objective in these attacks is to siphon large amounts from high balance accounts, hence
the name chosen for this research: Operation High Roller.
With no human participation required, each attack moves quickly and scales neatly. This operation combines an insider level of understanding of banking transaction systems with both custom and off the shelf malicious code and appears to be worthy of the term “organized crime.”
This study found 60 servers processing thousands of attempted thefts from high-value commercial accounts and some high net worth individuals. As the attack shifted emphasis from consumers to businesses, mule business accounts allowed attempted transfers averaging in the thousands of Euros, with some transfers as high as €100,000 (US$130,000).
Three distinct attack strategies have emerged as the targets have expanded from the European Union, to Latin America, to the United States.
Debunking the popular wisdom that only big banks are affected, the research documents attacks at every class of financial institution: credit union, large global bank, and regional bank. So far, we estimate the criminals have attempted at least €60 million (US$78 million) in fraudulent transfers from accounts at 60 or more financial institutions (FIs). If all of the attempted fraud campaigns were as successful as the Netherlands example we describe in this report, the total attempted fraud could be as high as €2 billion.

Some speculate the bizarre time anomalies, disappearances and weird phenomena can be explained by natural occurrences. Others are insistent that relics of an advanced, unknown culture left behind fantastic technology…great energy machines that literally warp space-time and open portals to other realities. Now American and French explorers have made a monumental discovery: a partially translucent, crystal-like pyramid rising from the Caribbean seabed— its origin, age and purpose completely unknown.
A gigantic structure, perhaps larger than the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt, and initially identified by a doctor in the 1960s, has been independently verified by diving teams from France and the U.S. The discovery has rocked scientists around the world. Will they rush to investigate it? No, they’re more likely to studiously ignore it. If pressed, they’ll officially position themselves as highly skeptical—especially in light of the potential ramifications.
The pyramid could confirm some engineers’ contentions that pyramids were originally created as massive power sources, support the claim that the ancient city-state of Atlantis did exist, or even provide answers to the mysterious goings-on that have been recorded since the 19th Century in the region of the Atlantic dubbed the Bermuda Triangle.

The Pyramid Was First discovered in 1968. According to the history, the pyramid was accidentally discovered during 1968 by a doctor of naturopathy, Ray Brown of Mesa, Arizona. Brown was in the Caribbean on vacation and making dives with friends in a region off the Bahamas known as “the Tongue of the Ocean.” The area acquired that name because a tongue-shaped portion of the seabed extends out from the island before sharply dropping off into much greater depths.
When relating his discovery, the doctor explained he became separated from his diving friends underwater. While attempting to rejoin them he came upon a massive structure rising from the ocean floor: a black, hulking object silhouetted against the lighter sun-filtered water. The object was shaped like a pyramid. Because he was low on air, he didn’t spend much time investigating the pyramid, but did find a strange crystal sphere. He brought it to the surface with him and later when the ancient crystal was studied researchers were astonished by its properties. Now could it be so that the crystal pyramid causing the Triangle phenomena?

Built on Land – Lost During Last Pole Shift?
Some Triangle researchers have theorized for years that a strange energy source exists at the bottom of the sea within the region of the ocean affecting planes, ships, and boats. A few investigators postulate that if the fabled Atlantis really did exist the remains of its mythical energy-vortex machine might still be intact at the bottom of the ocean. Such a machine, they claim, would likely be pyramidal-shaped and the original historical template that succeeding cultures around the globe copied much later. Thrilling is also that these mysterious pyramids are scattered across the entire world.
Pyramid structures have been discovered across North, Central, and South America; Eastern Europe; the icy tundra of Siberia; Northern and Central China; and possibly Antarctica. The South Pole pyramid cannot be confirmed as it’s deep under more than a mile of ice and images of it are controversial. Years ago, mysterious ruins the vestiges of an unknown culture were discovered on a small island called Malden in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The ruins were claimed to also have the remains of an ancient pyramid. Believers in the ancient land of Lemuria (also called Mu) proposed that the ruins might be all that were left of that ancient land, while others speculated it might have been an outpost colony of Atlantis.
An anthropologist from the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii explored the ruins back in 1924 and found no pyramid. What scientist Kenneth Emory did find, however, was evidence that a small Polynesian tribe once settled there briefly, perhaps no further back in time than the 16th Century. Despite that finding, more revelations were to come from the tiny island during the ensuing years. Researcher Mitch Williamson was one that dug deeper into the mysteries.
Reporting on some of Williamson’s amazing findings, Rich Hoffman, explorer and investigator, writes: “There are 40 stone temples on Malden Island that are described as similar in design to the buildings of Nan Madol on Pohnpei, some 3,400 miles (5,475 km) away. In fact, there is a basalt road that runs along the bottom of the Pacific Ocean which connects these islands under hundreds of feet of water.
“This suggests a culture that is more than 50,000 years old and that this entire land mass was once above water supporting a civilization that had no trouble moving around tremendous stones to build very large, complicated societies which we know absolutely nothing about, other than the fact that someone built them and they are older than biblical history.
“Yet, nobody discusses them because they don’t fit into our understanding of the human race and their origins. Scientists have their diffusion theories of how migrants arrived in North America using the land bridge of the Bering Straight and they are sticking with it.”
The same can be said of the scattered ruins of the Caribbean that suggest a very large civilization extending from the coastal waters off the Florida Keys, toward the Bahamian waters, crossing near Bimini, and east into the Atlantic. Cuba too has underwater ruins off its coast that may have been part of the same city-state complex. Hoffman also mentions, almost in passing, the incredible report of explorer Tony Benik who made the momentous discovery of yet another huge pyramid under 10,000 feet of water in the middle of the Atlantic.
And if that’s not enough, Hoffman shares the discovery of the Ari Marshall expedition in 1977. The team discovered a smaller pyramid off Cay Sal in the Bahamas. Marshall snapped underwater photos of the pyramid that’s submerged beneath 150 feet of water. According to Marshall’s account the mystery pyramid glows. He also reported the water around the pyramid was luminescent and glistening white water flowed out of openings in the pyramid. Despite the water at that depth being dark (not much light reaches that far down), the water surrounding the amazing pyramid was lit by the glow from the structure and appeared like a phosphorescent green color. No follow-up exploration has ever been done of the find.
Did Ice Age flood destroy Atlantis?
For an answer, Hoffman turns to the story of the amateur archaeologist who discovered the legendary city of Troy, Heinrich Schliemann: “The man who found and excavated the famous ruins of Troy (which historians thought was only a legend), reportedly left a written account of his discovery of a vase with a metal unknown to scientists who examined it, in the famous Priam Treasure. Inside it are glyphs in Phoenician stating that it was from King Chronos of Atlantis. Identical pottery was found in Tiajuanaco, Bolivia.”
If Atlantis did exist, it probably existed during the end of the last Ice Age. The story of its sinking relates to the massive floods and rising ocean when the oversized Arctic icecap suddenly receded with catastrophic results for much of the Northern Hemisphere.
At the end of last Ice Age sea levels were nearly 400 feet lower than present day levels. Once the waters began to rise, they rose swiftly. Conceivably, no technology then, or now, could have saved Atlantis from its watery grave.

Here is another new study by 22 biologists and ecologists who has found that environmental changes on our planet are reaching a point of no return that leads to mass extinctions and harms all human welfare. The situation, said one scientist, “scares the hell out of me.” That would be James H. Brown, one of the authors of alarming paper published by Nature, talking to New York Times Green blogger Justin Gillis. Brown is not one of your everyday cranks predicting raptures and the end of days.
He is a macroecologist at the University of New Mexico. And as The Atlantic‘s James Fallows, “who pointed out this terrifying study to us” He writes, this could be the most important news of 2012. How soon do these scientists expect the world as we know it to end? Gillis writes, “within a few human generations, if not sooner.” The most frightening thing is that this finding isn’t about what will come if we do not act, but that our effects on the planet’s environment global warming, population growth, and overall resource extraction means that we’ve already passed a ”tipping point.” This isn’t a plea for change. These are things scientists have been warning us about for decades.
And the Global warming puzzle becomes even MORE complex as methane is detected seeping directly from the Arctic ocean. Airborne surveys of the Arctic appear to have found a puzzling new source of greenhouse gas – methane seeping directly from the Arctic ocean.
Methane was detected near surface of Arctic ocean and it makes all warming predictions even more difficult. Gas is NOT accompanied by carbon monoxide so doesn’t come from man-made combustion. A report in Nature Geoscience suggests that as well as huge ‘surges’ of methane being released by melting permafrost, the gas might be being released from the ocean itself. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas – and this unpredictable effect makes the climate puzzle even more complex.
‘Uncertainty in the future atmospheric burden of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, represents an important challenge to the development of realistic climate projections,’ say the scientists.

‘The Arctic is home to large reservoirs of methane, in the form of permafrost soils. Furthermore, methane is produced in the surface ocean and the surface waters of the Arctic Ocean are supersaturated with respect to methane.’ Until now, it had been unknown what happened to this oceanic methane. Now it seems that some at least is being released into the atmosphere – causing unknown and unpredictable effects on the environment.

Now new research shows that over population and over-consumption will finally have catastrophic implications for human wellbeing. On the eve of the Rio+20 conference, the world’s 105 science academies have warned international leaders that a failure to act now on population growth and over-consumption will have “potentially catastrophic implications for human wellbeing”. The coalition of scientists from nations as diverse as South Africa, Latvia, Japan, Nicaragua, Bolivia and the UK, have taken the rare step of issuing a joint statement ahead of the UN conference on sustainable development, which will begin in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday (June 20). Scientists urged action not only on reducing consumption, but also on slowing population growth, with a particular focus on educating women and girls in developing countries.
“For too long the dual issues of population and consumption have been left off the table due to political and ethical sensitivities,” said Professor Charles Godfrey, Fellow of the Royal Society and Working Group Chair of the IAP, the global network of science academies. “These are issues that affect us all, developed and developing nations alike, and we must take responsibility for them together.” In a jointly signed statement, the IAP academies said that a future in which human wellbeing increases was still possible if policymakers act quickly.
“It is critical that national and international and policy makers, acting individually and collectively, take immediate action to address these difficult but vitally important issues,” the scientists said.

Sceptics expected that a deep-water dive would debunk the slew of extra-terrestrial theories surrounding an unidentified object sitting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. But the Swedish expedition team that took the plunge surfaced with more questions than answers – and certainly no solution to its origins. The divers found that the object, which some have likened to the Millennium Falcon because of its unusual round outline, was raised about 10 to 13ft above the seabed and curved in at the sides, giving it a mushroom shape.
“First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the finding becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver“, continues Peter Lindberg, one of the founder Ocean X Team.
Right now, scientists are examining samples from the circle-shaped object, and experts in sonar imaging are processing data from the ship to hopefully shed more light over the mysterious object. They added that the object has ’rounded sides and rugged edges’ and ‘First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else,’ diver Peter Lindberg said in a press release. At the center of the object, which has a 60-meter diameter, has an ‘egg shaped hole leading into it from the top’. Surrounding the hole, they found a strange, unexplained rock formation. Adding fuel to the speculative fire, they said that the rocks looked ‘like small fireplaces’ and the ‘stones were covered in something resembling soot’.

‘As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing and I have never experienced this before as a professional diver.’ The soot also proved cause for concern for Mr Lindberg’s colleague on the Ocean X explorer team, Stefan Hogeborn. ‘During my 20-year diving career, including 6,000 dives, I have never seen anything like this. Normally stones don’t burn,’ Mr Hogeborn said in the release.
‘I can’t explain what we saw, and I went down there to answer questions, but I came up with even more questions.’
Another find that they saw in person for the first time was the 985-foot trail that they described ‘as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it’. The object was first found this month last year, but because of a lack of funding and bad timing, they have were not able to pull a team together to see for themselves – just the strange, metallic outline, and a similar disk-shaped object about 200 metres away. As it was before the recent dive, the story behind the object is anyone’s guess.
‘We’ve heard lots of different kinds of explanations, from George Lucas’s spaceship – the Millennium Falcon – to its some kind of plug to the inner world,” like it should be hell down there or something,’ Mr Lindberg said.

Speaking to Fox News, he said: ‘We don’t know whether it is a natural phenomenon, or an object. We saw it on sonar when we were searching for a wreck from World War I. This circular object just turned up on the monitor. While the Ocean Explorer team is understandably excited about their potentially earth-shattering find, others are slightly more sceptical and are questioning the accuracy of the sonar technology. In the past, such technology has confused foreign objects with unusual but natural rock formations. Part of the trouble they face, however, is that they have no way of telling what is inside the supposed cylinder whether it is filled with gold and riches or simply aged sediment particles.
They’re hoping for the former, and history seems to be in their favour. The Baltic Sea is a treasure trove for shipwreck hunters, as an estimated 100,000 objects are thought to line the cold sea’s floor. The company have created a submarine that they hope will appeal to tourists and wannabe shipwreck hunters who will pay to take a trip down to the bottom of the Baltic Sea to see for themselves.
